In modern clinical research, data is the ultimate product. A drug or biologic cannot be evaluated for safety and efficacy unless the underlying clinical trial dataset is clean, complete, accurate, and fully auditable. Clinical Data Managers (CDMs) are the architects who design the data collection systems, govern electronic data capture, resolve discrepancies with investigator sites, and ensure regulatory compliance.

This foundational course breaks down the end-to-end CDM lifecycle into three structured operational pillars: 1) Clinical Trial Data Lifecycle & Regulatory Foundations (GCDMP, ICH GCP E6, and FDA 21 CFR Part 11); 2) Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Systems & eCRF Architecture; and 3) Data Cleaning, Discrepancy Query Management, and Audit Readiness.

Step into the shoes of a Clinical Data Associate reviewing patient trial data in an active global study:

Module 1 — Trial Protocol & eCRF Architecture: Examine a clinical study protocol to identify essential data points (inclusion/exclusion criteria, demographics, vitals, adverse events, concomitant medications). Understand how visit schedules and electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs) are architected to eliminate missing data.

Module 2 — EDC Navigation & Data Validation: Walk through electronic data capture interfaces. Learn how computerized edit checks automatically trigger logic checks on out-of-range values, conflicting dates, and protocol deviations during site data entry.

Module 3 — Query Lifecycle & Discrepancy Resolution: Draft, issue, track, and close clinical queries to trial sites. Learn the difference between system-generated automated queries and manual medical review queries, ensuring non-leading query phrasing.

Module 4 — Data Integrity & Regulatory Compliance: Apply ALCOA+ principles (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate) to electronic records, analyze audit trails, explore medical coding basics (MedDRA and WHODrug), and understand the rigorous criteria required for Database Lock.
